WiFi Direct mode (new!)

PdaNet+ now comes with an all-new “WiFi Direct Hotspot” feature that works on all Android phones 4.1 or higher. It allows you to connect computers and tablets to your phone via WiFi BUT you will need to install our client app or configure a proxy depending on the device you are connecting to the phone.

  •  You can activate “WiFi Direct Hotspot” on PdaNet+ and then click “Help!” for detailed instructions.
  • * If your Windows computer does not see the access point while pairing, do two things: 1. Restart the access point on the phone
  • .Click on “Show all WiFi hotspots“. It will check if your adapter supports 5Ghz.

FoxFi/WiFi access point mode (the old one)

The original Wi-Fi hotspot feature will remain in the separate FoxFi app if you still need it. It no longer works on many newer phone models due to carrier updates. Even if it works, your access point’s usage can be measured (see plan 2 below). WiFi Direct Hotspot could solve both problems. However, the new feature is not intended to support gaming devices, televisions, or TV streaming devices.

USB mode

USB mode works on all Android phones (except some ZTE/Alcatel models). It allows connection from Windows or Mac. In addition, there is a “WiFi Share” function that can turn Windows into a WiFi access point, allowing you to share PdaNet Internet with other devices. If your computer does not recognize your phone after connecting the USB, please visit http://pdanet.co/driver

Bluetooth mode

You can use Bluetooth mode to connect to Windows. Although the WiFi Direct mode is preferred.

Do I need this software?

PdaNet software has been around since the first Treo smartphone in 2003. With over 30 million downloads in total, it must be something everyone needs, right? Well… it really depends on the type of data plan you have for your phone. There are 4 types of data plans from most providers:

1: Your data plan (limited or unlimited) does not allow you to activate the mobile hotspot feature on your phone (you will be prompted to call your carrier).

2: Your data plan is unlimited and you can activate a mobile hotspot from your phone to use it. But hotspot usage is “measured” based on a limit (say 5G/month). After that, the speed is reduced to a minimum. (FoxFi can’t help it!)

3: Your data plan is unlimited and you can activate a mobile hotspot from your phone with unlimited use of LTE and no limitation. This plan does NOT exist or is not planned. But we’ve seen loopholes in some phone models to allow this.

4:Your data plan is limited and you can activate a mobile hotspot from your phone. The use of the mobile hotspot is under the same data plan limit.

Customer reviews
Captain Bill I have been using this app for about 10 years. It’s been my only way to stay online all this time, and it’s been everything I need. It has worked amazingly every time. Sure, there are some random crashes, but it always reconnects quickly and continues to work flawlessly, except for an occasional crash, which reconnects in seconds. That’s until yesterday. I keep getting “error-16” when trying to connect via wifi. There is very little online about that error. Does anyone know what that error-16 is? 44 people found this review helpful Brian Smith It’s a good app for what it’s supposed to do, my only complaint is that I often have to reinstall it on my PC to get it to work due to the “Network is busy in Windows” error message. Reinstalling is a temporary solution, as far as I know it is not permanent. Sometimes it also goes back and forth between “connected” and “reconnect” causing the connection to not exist. Some awkward kinks that cause minor irritation, other than that it’s a great app 49 people found this review helpful
